Marcus Paus

About Marcus Paus

Marcus Paus (b. 1979) is one of Norway's most prominent and prolific composers. His list of works encompasses chamber music, solo pieces, choral and vocal music, concertos and other orchestral works, as well as operas, theatre and film music. As one of the most commissioned and performed Nordic composers of his generation, his music has earned recognition for its expressiveness and craftsmanship.

He has had numerous interdisciplinary collaborations, including with his father, the singer-songwriter Ole Paus, who wrote lyrics to several of Paus's works. Paus is also active as a mentor for other composers, and he sits on the music advisory committees of both TONO and the Norwegian Society of Composers. He has described himself as an 'anarcho-traditionalist', and is a prominent voice in public debate for aesthetic pluralism and openness.
