NyNorsk Messingkvintett

About NyNorsk Messingkvintett

By combining contemporary music with stage art and literature, NyNorsk Messingkvintett (NyNorsk Brass Quintet) has created a repertoire of entirely unique expression. In collaboration with figures such as the writer Kjartan Fløgstad, the stage art group Fakta Morgana, Knut Nærum, and artists like Tora Augestad, Trygve Seim, Frank Havrøy, Silje Aker Johnsen and Per Arne Glorvigen, the ensemble has developed distinctive concert experiences across various genres of new music.

The ensemble has distinguished itself with more than 50 world premieres since 2016, by composers including Marcus Paus, Therese B. Ulvo, Knut Vaage and Ørjan Matre. They have performed at festivals such as Nordlysfestivalen, Ultima, Only Connect, Oslo Chamber Music Festival, the Norwegian Organ Festival and Dei Nynorske Festspela, held masterclasses at higher music education institutions, and run workshops with young composers. They have released several critically acclaimed albums on LAWO Classics, and in 2021 they were awarded 'Performer of the Year' by the Norwegian Society of Composers.
