About Håkon Asheim
Håkon Asheim (b. 1962, Oslo) is one of Norway's foremost Hardanger fiddle musicians and a scholar of Norwegian folk music tradition. He graduated from Oslo University in 1995 with a master's degree focused on the concert tradition of the Hardanger fiddle. Since 2003 he has been associate professor and study coordinator at the Ole Bull Academy in Voss, where he teaches traditional music performance.
He has released the solo album Ulrik (Heilo, 1992) and appears on numerous other recordings, including as Hardanger fiddle soloist in Hvoslef's Hardingtrio on LAWO Classics' Ketil Hvoslef – Chamber Works No. VI (LWC1180), alongside soprano Hilde Haraldsen Sveen and pianist Einar Røttingen — the first recording of this work. He contributed more than 100 folk music transcriptions to volume V of the collection Norsk folkemusikk: Slåtter for vanlig fele (Oslo, 2012), and co-authored with Gunnar Stubseid the book Ole Bull og folkemusikken. He is the brother of composer and organist Nils Henrik Asheim.
