TOWARD THE SUN
Mot Sol presents new choral works shaped around themes of light, renewal, and human connection. The recording highlights the Oslo Cathedral Choir under the direction of Vivianne Sydnes, with contributions from organist Kåre Nordstoga and soprano Berit Norbakken. Their performances support the choir with clear lines, steady energy, and a sound that serves the music rather than embellishes it.
The album centers on recently written compositions and fresh arrangements. These include new works by Torbjørn Dyrud, Andrew Smith, Marianne Reidarsdatter Eriksen, and others. Each piece adds its own character, from quiet, intimate reflections to more open and expansive expressions. The program moves simply and naturally between these moods, allowing the new music to stand at the forefront.
The choir performs with clarity and focus throughout. Sydnes shapes the material with a steady hand, giving space to the text and the musical ideas. Nordstoga’s organ writing and playing add depth to several tracks, while Norbakken’s soprano brings a clean, direct tone to the pieces where she appears.
Mot Sol offers a collection of music that looks forward. The album brings together traditional influences and contemporary voices, with love—spiritual, human, and everyday—running as a thread through the program. Pieces such as Den særde, Hva planter gjør, Veni Sancte Spiritus, Kjærlighet fra Gud, and Å leva, det er å elska show the range of expression in the new works and the ensemble’s commitment to presenting them with honesty and precision.

Oslo Domkor
Oslo Domkor (Oslo Cathedral Choir) is the principal choral ensemble of Oslo Cathedral and one of Norway's leading professional choirs. Under the artistic direction and conductorship of Cathedral Cantor Vivianne Sydnes, the choir performs both unaccompanied choral repertoire and major works for choir and orchestra.
Oslo Domkor has given world premieres of compositions by Lasse Thoresen, Torbjørn Dyrud, Andrew Smith, B. Morten Christophersen, and Gisle Kverndokk, among others. The choir has developed a strong position in Norwegian musical life under Sydnes' leadership and regularly appears in the context of cathedral worship, large-scale concerts, and recordings.
The choir's long tradition of excellence stretches back to the early 20th century, when Oslo Cathedral first became a central venue for choral music.
