BLOCKBIRD – A NORWEGIAN VARIETY

“Blockbird – Norwegian Recorder Music” features works written for recorder in Norway from 1969 up to the present day. The recorder experienced a renaissance in the 1960s, when composers once again began to show an interest in the instrument. A number of them – such as Olav Anton Thommessen in the title track “Blockbird” – used associations with birds, a common theme on this recording. The recorder is heard both unaccompanied and – as in the three chamber music works – together with piano, guitar, and organ.

Can one speak great truths with a small instrument? Or do only the big events touch us? Listen for yourself: the tones you hear are a continuous commentary on our journey on this Earth, and a personal form of address leaving no one untouched.

Since receiving Concerts Norway’s prestigious recording grant “Intro-klassisk’, Caroline Eidsten Dahl (b. 1980) has distinguished herself both as soloist and chamber musician. She has performed in Russia, China, India, Sweden, and Norway. “Blockbird – Norwegian Recorder Music” is her debut as recording artist.
