KÅRE NORDSTOGA - ORGAN
JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACH
CLAVIERÜBUNG III
Fantastic double CD from LAWO Classics performed by
one of Norway's leading organists on a baroque organ
from Bach's own time.
Most people know Prelude and Fugue in E-Flat Major as one
of Bach's most monumental organ works, often used as
wedding music. What is perhaps not so well known is that
Bach himself published the prelude and the fugue in 1739 as
the first and last movement, respectively, of a collection
consisting of 27 movements and entitled Clavierübung III.
Most of the movements are elaborate chorale adaptations
arranged according to the different parts of the mass and are
therefore also referred to as Bach's "organ mass."
The music was recorded in Zwolle, the Netherlands, on an
organ built in 1721 by the legendary organ builder, Arp
Schnitger, the last one he made. Clavierübung III brings
together in a special way all of Bach's polyphonic mastery as
composer and organ master. The combination of the
monumental baroque organ and the magnificent acoustics in
Zwolle Cathedral makes this double CD a special organ
listening experience.
